Stenciling is a fast, easy and inexpensive way to decorate a room in your home. To create the new vintage bath or shabby chic look, add these authentic c.1900 stencils, designed by Candace Wheeler (1827–1923), the renowned woman authority in her time on decorative textiles and interiors. Throughout the 1880s, as an influential woman designer in a field dominated by men, Wheeler and her firm created an extensive collection of textiles. In 1877, Wheeler founded the Society of Decorative Art in New York. In 1898, she designed the interior of the Woman’s Building at the Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition and arranged the State of New York’s applied arts exhibition at the event. |
